There are exactly 2 out of 6 people in this house that likes onion rings. My oldest son and me. Yeah, it’s hard for me to understand the other 4 also because who doesn’t like onion rings?
Especially when it’s crunchy baked onion rings?
My son and I could eat these things for breakfast, lunch, dinner and for a snack. Dipped in a bowl of ketchup too? Uh huh, that’s my kind of eatin’.
I will be honest and tell you that I like them fried better but since we don’t eat a lot of fried foods anymore, except chicken about once a month and my homemade eggrolls, these are a great substitute.
Just give them a nice dredge in some flour, breadcrumbs, eggs and milk…
Toss on a baking sheet that’s been sprayed with some non-stick cooking spray, and then toss them in the oven for a bit…
And the results are a bunch of nice crunchy onion rings!
Ingredients
- 2 onions, cut into ¼ inch slices and pulled apart to make individual rings
- 1¼ cup flour
- 1 tbsp salt
- 1 tbsp dry mustard
- 1 tsp ground red pepper
- 1 cup breadcrumbs, homemade or store bought
- 2 eggs, beaten
- ½ cup milk
- non-stick cooking spray
- 3 bowls for dredging
Instructions
- In bowl 1 combine flour, salt, dry mustard and ground red pepper.
- In bowl 2 take ¼ cup seasoned flour mixture from bowl 1 and mix well with breadcrumbs.
- In bowl 3 combine beaten egg and milk.
- Dredge each onion ring in this order: egg mixture, seasoned flour, egg mixture, breadcrumb mixture.
- Lay in individual layer on baking pan that has been sprayed with non-stick cooking spray.
- Spray a light coat of the non-stick cooking spray over onion rings.
- Bake in a pre-heated 425° oven for 10-12 minutes, flip over and cook an additional 10-12 minutes.

These look so good! I love onion rings, but have never tried making them at home. I’m definitely going to try you baked version!
So I’ve never made onion rings before, but I absolutely want to give these a try because *I* love a good crispy onion ring. And the fact that these are baked instead of fried sounds delightful.
However, I can’t get over that only you and your oldest son are the only ones who like onion rings in y’all’s home. Buuuuuuut on the bright side, maybe it’s a good thing because that means more onion rings for y’all? Maybe?
Also, this was one of my favorite links shared in last week’s #thatsfreshfriday blog party! I hope you don’t mind that I’m sharing it tonight at my blog as a favorite and linking back to you. Happy Thursday, and I hope to see you back at our link-up this week! Here’s to a great weekend!
