Do you know what I love the most about cooking this recipe? Besides it being extremely simple and delicious, that is. The SMELL! This Pear Crostata recipe has THE most amazing smell when baking that I absolutely have a hard time waiting the entire 40 minutes for it to cook. Forget about the 10 minutes it takes to cool.
The only reason I waited this time was for you! Yes, I know. We bloggers go through some extreme hardships, don’t we?
Just kidding…well, kinda. It took some amazing willpower for me to wait to cut into this amazingly delicious pie just so you guys could see how well it stays together. The very first time I made this recipe I was extremely skeptical.
But, that’s only if you wait for it to cool slightly. Cut into in before that and you might have a runny mess on your hands. Still delicious, but runny. Ask me how I know
If you have the time to make your own homemade crust I would totally do that. So much better with this recipe. I didn’t have the time and I just so happen to have a store bought crust in the freezer that I needed to use up so that’s what I used.
Still delicious, just not as delicious as it would have been if I’d made a homemade crust. Don’t worry if the crust isn’t all neat and perfect. The imperfection is what makes this pear crostata so beautiful!
Ingredients
- 2 cups pears, sliced (about 4 pears)
- 1/2 cup plus 1 tsp sugar, divided
- 3 tbsp all-purpose flour
- 1/4 tsp ground cinnamon
- 9 inch regular frozen pie crust, thawed
Instructions
- To a mixing bowl add pears, 1/2 cup sugar, flour and cinnamon.
- Toss gently until fully combined.
- Pour pear mixture into center of thawed pie crust.
- Gently fold edges over the top of pears.
- Sprinkle the remaining 1 tsp of sugar of the top of the pear mixture and crust edge.
- Bake in a 400° oven for 40 minutes or until crust is golden brown.
- Cool 10 minutes.
Notes
I used a regular frozen pie crust that had been thawed. I cooked the crostata directly in the pie pan then removed it to a plate to serve. If you make a homemade crust you can cook the crostata on a baking pan that has been lined with parchment paper.
