I started to label this recipe as “spicy” but it’s just not (to me, that is). My family says it’s a tad bit on the spicy side but I can’t tell it.
With the addition of ground red pepper in the honey mustard sauce and the use of pepper jack cheese in the turkey meatballs it may very well be on the mildly spicy side. I guess it’s just a matter of it you like heat (me) or if you don’t (my family).
Not only would these make a great appetizer for your New Year’s Eve or game day party, they’re also quick and easy enough to make as a snack for anytime.
See how the turkey meatballs cradle the pepper jack cheese? Yum!
I will tell you this, though. The one thing we all agree on is that this honey mustard dipping sauce is one of our absolute favorites!
It’s just mustardy enough and just sweet enough. And it compliments these turkey meatballs just right!
Ingredients
- 1 pound ground turkey
- 1 egg, beaten
- ¾ cup crushed crackers, plain or butter flavor
- ¼ cup chopped fresh onion or 1 tbsp dried chopped onion
- ½ tsp ground ginger
- 4 oz pepper jack cheese, cut in ½ cubes (approximately 24 cubes)
-
For the Honey Mustard Dipping Sauce
- 1 tbsp Dijon mustard
- ½ cup mayonnaise
- 3 tbsp honey
- 2 tbsp yellow mustard
- ¼ tsp ground red pepper (optional)
Instructions
- Combine the ground turkey, egg, crackers, onions and ground ginger together in a mixing bowl.
- Form mixture into 24 meatballs.
- Press a cube of cheese into the center of each meatball making sure to wrap the meatball mixture completely around the cheese.
- Place meatballs in a single layer on a baking sheet that has been lightly sprayed with cooking spray.
- Cook in a 350° pre-heated oven for 18-20 minutes.
For the Honey Mustard Dipping Sauce
- Stir all ingredients together until well combined.
- Serve with Turkey and Cheese Meatballs.
